The Witcher 4 premieres at The Game Awards 2024, confirms returning protagonist

The Game Awards 2024's first major world premiere is here, and it's none other than The Witcher 4. The first unexpected trailer of the night, CD Projekt Red showcased a long cinematic trailer with Ciri in action against a multi-armed monster in the forest.

The Witcher 4 finally showcased

TGA 2024's very first world premiere is the hotly-anticipated The Witcher 4 from CDPR. The six-minute-long cinematic is "rendered in Unreal Engine 5 on an unannounced Nvidia GeForce RTX GPU" and starts with a woman preparing to be sent into the forest for a sacrifice to the gods. The premise perfectly fits into The Witcher universe.

As the woman walks to her fate as "chosen by the gods," we see a Witcher in the midst. One of the villagers reacts to the mysterious figure, and Ciri is finally revealed (we all knew she was the protagonist of the next game).

In the dark forest, Ciri sends the woman back to the village as she prepares to take on the lurking monstrosity within.

While initially on the back foot, she pops one of the Witcher Potions, and the fight ensues in its full ferocity. The trailer features quite a bit of her magical abilities — a paralyzing/stunning blue-electric attack and her wielding a chain that she can set on fire.

Once Ciri returns to the village after killing the monster, we see the "Chosen One" lying dead. The villagers start clamoring that all they wanted was for the woman to go to the "gods." Ciri angrily retorts:

"There are no gods here, only monsters."

Not many were expecting to see The Witcher 4 at TGA 2024, and even if they were, they likely didn't expect that to be a long cinematic captured in-game. However, CDPR shattered all such expectations. For now, we do not know when the game will arrive, but the hype and anticipation are already through the roof.
