Ubisoft shutting down XDefiant in June 2025, offers refunds to players

Ubisoft has decided to shut down XDefiant in June 2025. The game was released in May 2024 and will be shut down just a year from launch. Furthermore, The developer has begun the sunsetting process on the FPS title, meaning players will not be able to purchase new bundles in-game.

Ubisoft is also offering a full refund to players who bought the Ultimate Founders Pack. While the game is slated to close next year, players will get a new Season soon.

XDefiant is sunsetting from December 3, 2024

When players head to the official XDefiant website, they are greeted with a page titled, Our Message to Players. Here, Ubisoft thanks players for their support:

"We regret to inform you that we are initiating the sunset process starting today, December 3rd, 2024. As a result, new downloads, player registrations and purchases will no longer be available. Season 3 will still launch, so stay tuned for more updates to come. The servers will remain active, and the game will be fully playable until June 3rd, 2025."

The game will officially go offline on June 3, 2025.

Players who bought the Ultimate Founders Pack, along with those who have made VC and DLC purchases since November 3, 2024, will get full refunds of their purchases. However, the refund can take up to eight weeks to process. Furthermore, the Founder's Pack and Founder's Pack Elite are not eligible for refunds.

While new purchases are not allowed, players who have XCoins in-game can still redeem content using it.

Executive Producer of XDefiant, Mark Rubin, also shared a heartfelt message on X about the game shutting down.

According to the official statement from Ubisoft, XDefiant was too far away from reaching the results required to enable further significant investment in a competitive free-to-play FPS market. The team working on Ubisoft will be merged with other titles.

The silver lining for players is that there will be a Season 3 of XDefiant with new content arriving. After that, the game's servers will be taken offline on June 3, 2025.
