Within just a few days of its release, Astro Bot is already the best-selling retail game on Amazon and is completely sold out on Amazon Japan. Being touted as the best PlayStation 5 title to date by many, Astro Bot delivers all the fun that it promised in the trailers and leaked clips.

That said, the only complaint that gamers have from Team Asobi is the fact that the game is much shorter to industry standards these days. Typically, PlayStation 5 titles take you around 40-80 hours to complete. However, Astro Bot can be completed in anywhere around 12-15 hours. Here is what Astro Bot's developer has to say about this.

Astro Bot developer discusses key to title's success

Creative director of Astro Bot, Nicolas Doucet, recently sat with BBC News for a short interview. In a YouTube video uploaded on the BBC News channel, Doucet went on record and discussed the reason behind keeping the game's length short. Doucet believes that Team Asobi figured out exactly what the gamers wanted in Astro Bot:

"We seem to have found a good recipe for them," Nicolas Douet said. (16:19)

Giving credit to the short storyline of the game, Doucet gave an interesting analogy and pointed out that it is always memorable to go for a two-course meal rather than having to eat at a buffet.

"In fact, you can say you have more for your money with a buffet but what's the last memory that you take away with you?" (14:35)

He continued,

"It's probably to feel bloated and a bit like you've ate too much and you just want to go and sleep." (14:42)

Continuing further, he also stated that even though the developers initially had an open-world game planned, they later came to the realization that having a level-based approach would be much more engaging for gamers.

Giving gamers the liberty to customize things seemed like a good decision for Team Asobi. The game pays tribute to a ton of PlayStation classics. Consisting of various bots that players need to collect during Astro Bot, the game maintains its uniqueness while implementing some of the previous games' mechanics.

A perfect example of this would be when players enter the challenging Feather Cluster world. In order to achieve the What a Trip trophy, players need to be aware of what the Tripcaster is. (Horizon Zero Dawn reference)

This out-of-the-box thinking, along with the short storyline is what makes Astro Bot a must-try title.
