XDefiant ditched the recent changes in the Weapon Mastery system following backlash from the community. On June 18, 2024, the XDefiant Y1S0.4 patch brought major updates to the Weapon XP progression. It reduced the amount of XP needed to level up primary weapons. In turn, the Weapon Mastery level requirements were also increased, which players took negatively.

Developer Ubisoft addressed the issue immediately and introduced several changes once more. Keep reading to learn more about the revamped Weapon mastery in the game.

XDefiant doubles rank up speed for Weapon Mastery

XDefiant has scrapped the changes introduced in its recent patch and implemented tweaks that essentially double the rank-up speed for the Weapon Mastery. From 3,000 XP, players now only need 1,500 XP to level up.

However, the number of levels you need to unlock a mastery skin stays the same. The patch introduced a 14% speed increase in unlocking Weapon mastery.

Mark Rubin, the game's executive producer, addressed the backlash through a lengthy announcement on X. He explained the reason behind the Weapon Mastery update in the Y1S0.4 patch:

"Because weapon mastery was the only grind we had, we feared that players would achieve the end of that grind too fast and that would make the skins feel less special and rewarding."

Rubin acknowledged the flaws in the previous changes and apologized to the community:

"We made a change while the game is live and people had already put in effort towards progression. This was a mistake on our part and we will own that."

XDefiant's Weapon XP progression has been a contentious topic in the community since the game's launch in May 2024. With the recent changes, players can expect a smoother progression in their mastery grinding.
