The new free extension update to Alien: Isolation introduced two new difficulty modes to the game recently: Nightmare and Novice.

The Alien: Isolation makers released this news through their Advent Calendar, which offers daily complements from the game through concept art, wallpapers, etc. The news which highlighted this new update titled Nightmare Mode as the "ultimate Alien: Isolation experience," putting forth a challenge for players to delve into Sevastopol with a broken motion tracker, no health bar or ammo counter, and all maps offline.

In Nightmare mode, the survivors cannot drop grenades and missiles, fuel for the flamethrower is scant and gets consumed very quickly, and Alien’s new upgraded AI makes him an even more aggressive and intimidating enemy than before.

For players for whom it’s too much to handle, there is the other mode called the Novice mode. This mode was developed especially on players’ request after they felt the need of “breathing space" to discover the game's features.

In this mode, the resources are present in abundance and enemies are easier to tackle. Novice Mode reduces the Alien's intelligence and reduces its speed to acclimatize to your actions and comportment. It is also less hostile than the Nightmare mode.
