A recent update has sparked a debate in the Deadlock community regarding the fate of cosmetic items. During the winter update of December 18, 2024, Valve announced that their playtesting game will have Holiday skins. These festive skins are unlockable through specific in-game challenges, with each character having a unique task to complete.
Unfortunately, there's still no confirmed release date and the game is yet to enter the open beta testing phase. So, players are skeptical if they will get to keep these skins forever. On top of that, the game still doesn't have a collection or inventory tab for cosmetic items, adding to the confusion.
Redditor u/Raslehc addressed this issue through a post on the biggest Deadlock community on Reddit — r/DeadlockTheGame. He wondered whether the unlocked skins were permanent or seasonal, to which a user simply replied:
"No one knows."

Reacting to the post, Redditor u/Zarzar222 suggested that the skins might be temporary as there is no Steam inventory integration like Counter-Strike 2 or DOTA 2.
Similarly, u/Neubliance said that it was doubtful as the character skins are not very well designed, to which u/daemonika replied that Valve might view these skins as a practice for the design team, given the effort involved.
On the other hand, other members of the Deadlock community are hoping for some level of permanence. User u/Greybigfoot claimed that the skins could be removed after the holidays, but may become a yearly thing for the game. This point of view mirrored that of u/Hello86836717, who claimed the skins might return every Christmas season.
Meanwhile, u/bigwillyman7 believed that these skins were most likely to be permanent as they were already saved in the player's account. Likewise, user u/-MommaLizard hoped that the skins were permanent but wasn't very sure.
