Genshin Impact creator miHoYo has achieved a significant milestone beyond the virtual world. The latest official news has confirmed that a TOKAMAK fusion reactor, a cutting-edge project in collaboration with Shanghai-based company Energy Singularity, has been successfully ignited. This private initiative aims to harness clean energy through sun-like fusion reactions, potentially revolutionizing power generation.

Such an unprecedented move by the gaming company highlights the growing recognition that innovative solutions are needed to address the global energy crisis and climate change. This article will cover everything you need to know about the new state-of-the-art TOKAMAK fusion reactor funded by Genshin Impact creator, miHoYo.

Genshin Impact creator miHoYo's TOKAMAK nuclear fusion reactor becomes operational

Popular video game developer miHoYo has successfully announced the launch of its own TOKAMAK nuclear fusion reactor. This is a groundbreaking move for the company that earned popularity in the gacha community for renowned titles like Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail.

These games receive regular updates where new content, characters, weapons, and more are released for players to enjoy. Players who love these games would splurge money to acquire multiple copies of their favorite characters, weapons, and related cosmetics such as character skins. It turns out that all this time, some of the profits from players' gacha spending have been helping miHoYo to invest in nuclear fusion technology.

When did miHoYo start funding TOKAMAK nuclear fusion reactor?

It is worth clarifying that Genshin Impact creator, miHoYo, does not own the TOKAMAK fusion reactor. Back in early 2022, miHoYo and NIO Capital were the first major investors for the start-up company Energy Singularity's first funding round where they raised nearly CNY 400 million. Later in 2021, Energy Singularity was founded in Shanghai, China.

According to reports, the start-up company aims to commercialize fusion energy and will focus its resources on R&D in HTS ((High-Temperature Superconductor) magnets, plasma physics, and artificial intelligence technologies. The start-up has successfully completed its task of launching the world's first high-temperature superconducting TOKAMAK fusion reactor on June 18, 2024.

This technology aims to generate and contain energy from thermonuclear fusion using magnets. Alternatively, a clever explanation would be that this technology attempts to create artificial suns and regulate the energy they produce using magnets. Steam is the only byproduct produced after the heat is absorbed by the tokamak and used to power a turbine.

TOKAMAK fusion reactors, while not yet commercially viable, are progressing. Companies worldwide are working together to achieve this goal, which aims to eliminate fuel poverty and carbon emissions. The UK's Tokamak Energy recently achieved a plasma temperature of 100 million Celsius, a critical milestone for commercialization. China, America, and France all invest heavily in fusion research.
