The demand for a 6v6 format in Overwatch 2 is at an all-time high. With the latest OW2 patch buffing Tank Heroes to a whole new level, the entire community, including streamers and the general player base, has taken to social media platforms to express their dissent with the update.

Disappointed at the dismal state of balance in Overwatch 2, popular streamer and content creator Samito recently made a post on X, stating:

"If Overwatch 1 was 5v5 role lock, it never would have won GOTY or been loved for this long. 6v6 has the special sauce, big moments, unique hero identity and skill expression via gameplay loop that no other game has touched in 8 years. Overwatch 2 will never be peak in 5v5."

As evident from the comments, the community never sought a 5v5 alternative for the game but rather needed a better balance team to fine-tune the issues prevalent in the previous format.

Overwatch was not devoid of issues. The game had seen the evolution of a range of relentless metas, such as GOATS, double-shield, and so on. Players like @CorneliusZoom and @YourOverwatchYT highlighted these issues. However, they remain in the minority.

As evident from the experiences shared by the majority of the player base, it was never 6v6 that caused problems. According to them, Blizzard Entertainment's failure to prevent power creep and establish a balanced competitive environment, in the end, led to Overwatch's demise.

All in all, judging by the current rate of things, players are adamant in their demands for at least an experimental 6v6 playlist for Overwatch 2.

Ever since the OW2 Season 11 mid-season update, the community's frustrations have soared. The ball is in the developer's court, and all we can do is wait and watch for what comes next.

Will 6v6 be a more favorable format for Overwatch 2?

Judging from the fact that Overwatch, as a hero shooter, developed from a 6v6 core format, the transition into the 5v5 system has been unpleasant.

A constant wave of power creep for one role in every season has entirely disrupted the game balance in OW2 since its debut. While it's uncertain whether 6v6 can be a viable format, it wouldn't hurt the developer to try and implement a temporary arcade mode to test the waters.
