The trailer opens with Bumblebee, Arcee, and Optimus Prime—three household-name Autobots—gearing up to face off the leader of the Decepticons, Megatron. This leads to a skirmish between the two factions, as seen with Bumblebee switching to his mobile form to initiate an onslaught of Assault Gun projectiles on the foe, followed by Arcee's ranged Ultimate "Captive Sun"—which promptly gets blocked by Megatron's Void Barrier.
Optimus Prime swoops in using his Charge attack for a hit using his Rocket Hammer, forcing Megatron to create distance. The foe takes this opportunity to unleash a barrage of fist projectiles, leading to Prime having to dodge between attacks to close the gap. This then leads to the splash outro for the trailer, also showcasing the July 9, 2024 launch of the Overwatch 2 x Transformers collaboration.
At this point, while hardcore Transformers fans will be geeking out over the Transformers G1-inspired designs, Overwatch players will have guessed as to which Overwatch hero is getting which skin. For those unfamiliar, here are the results:
- Optimus Prime Reinhardt
- Bumblebee Bastion
- Megatron Ramattra
- Arcee Illari
That said, Illari is an unexpected outlier for this Overwatch 2 x Transformers collaboration. While other picks were more or less predictable, fans were placing their bets on the hero Echo stepping into the robotic flesh of the most iconic female Autobot thus far in the Transformers universe. Further details remain unclear, such as how much each skin will cost but we can take a guess
As with previous collaborations, including the previous Porsche DVA and Pharah skins, each cosmetic individually should cost about 1,800-2000 Overwatch Coins, which translates to $18-20 USD. There may even be a bundle with all four skins packed in. However, we must wait until July 9 to find out.
Overwatch 2 is free to play on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
