Following the release of XDefiant, Ubisoft's brand-new arena shooter, several players praised the genre on multiple social media forums. However, as days passed, many noticed a plethora of flaws in-game. Despite the developers managing to fix most of the issues, problems like the leaver penalty, and SBMM have emerged.
As a result, many users voiced their discontent over these problems. One such user, u/Overrated_Clockwork, posted on the game's Reddit forum and urged others to not leave their XDefiant matches.
"Please stop leaving"

u/Agent_C2M expressed their Escort mode experience where players tend to camp in search of a kill instead of actually pushing the payload robot. By doing that, some get annoyed, making them leave their match to queue for another.
One XDefiant player explained how sometimes they get placed in an ongoing match instead of a game, starting from scratch. They explained rather than taking a loss after entering an ongoing match, they would definitely leave the game to look for a fresh start.
Moreover, the user urged Ubisoft to introduce a system that puts every player in a new match instead of an ongoing one. They said:
"It's gonna be an automatic loss, so I may as well leave and take the loss that shouldn't have been a loss to begin with, since I never should have been put into a match that's in progress
The user went on to state:
" I've never agreed with the idea that if I'm queuing up for matches that I get put into one that's almost done/no possible way of winning. Let alone sometimes the queuing takes FOREVER. Just start me in a new lobby instead of putting me mid match."
u/oldela voiced their frustration over the same issue. They mentioned their poor experience with some players, leaving the lobby, despite there still being a chance of winning. They said:
"The most annoying ones are the ones that quit when there's still a chancing of winning. Like bro we it's only a ten point lead we can come back from this. Also imo winning is more fun but if you can't also have fun while losing a casual game you shouldn't be playing it"
Despite some fans sharing some of their poor experiences in the usual unraked lobby, u/47446 seems to have a doable solution to resolve this issue. The user addressed the Ubisoft developers and urged them to add some form of punishment for quitting their unraked lobby.
Developers of FPS Hero shooters like Valorant and Overwatch 2 have implemented this feature long ago. If players leave their match for any reason, they seem to get a particular set of punishments like a 15 or 30-minute ban.
Moreover, regardless of the title, if the perpetrators tend to do this frequently, they get slapped with a longer ban which extends up to one or maybe two weeks.
Lastly, u/RelativeLow156 provides an honest opinion about the aforementioned scenario. They explained how the broken SBMM system annoys some players, making them quit the lobby. As a result of this, sometimes users seem to be matched up against more experienced players.

On the other hand, some experienced players have the minimum expectation to get good teammates. However, due to this broken match-making system, they are left stuck with an unbalanced team, making them disappointed and quit the lobby. They said:
Should XDefiant developers implement a penalty for the leavers?
In short, yes, the Ubisoft developers must implement a small penalty for match leavers. Meanwhile, they should also add severe punishments like a one/two week matchmaking ban for repeat offenders. Numerous FPS games residing in the bigger leagues already have this system where they severely punish players who leave the lobby before the match finishes.
If Ubisoft wants to make its mark in the arena shooter scene, implementing the leaver penalty should be the first priority. On the other hand, many community players have complained about the broken SBMM system as discussed earlier. The company should also look into this matter to enhance the experience for casual players and newcomers.
