As Niantic slowly added in more Pokemon, they have released an update which has added Generation 4 Pokemon, based in Sinnoh. Gen 4 is known for releasing evolutions of older known Pokemon such as Magmortar, Electivire, Rhyperior, Togekiss, Porygon-Z, Weavile and more.
They have also added baby Pokemon such as Budew, which evolve into Pokemon introduced in previous generations. The Pokemon and the Sinnoh Region were introduced in the DS games Pearl, Diamond and Platinum.
You can get these Pokemon if you own the previous evolve stage Pokemon and if you have enough candies. You also need an item called the Sinnoh Stone in order to evolve these Pokemon. The only way to get a Sinnoh Stone is if you are able to complete enough Field Research tasks and consequently achieve a Research Breakthrough.
However, the update has not yet released all of the Gen 4 Pokemon. It has focused on evolving already-existing Pokemon in the game. You can now also transfer a Pokemon from Pokemon Go to Nintendo Switch's Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu! and Eevee.
