Prototype Amber is a craftable weapon that was introduced along with the release of the game. Part of the Prototype series, this weapon shares the category alongside Prototype Rancour, Prototype Archaic, Prototype Starglitter and Prototype Crescent. With an HP substat, this weapon is aimed at healers who base healing off on their HP. The passive of this weapon also supports healing while using burst, making this a perfect weapon for a healer overall.
The lore behind this weapon is the lore of the Liyue catalysts as we see today, as this was one of the first catalysts that were made available which would not break upon the first use. Forged from Cor Lapis, Prototype Amber went through a double purification process to gain sturdiness.

Story
An ancient catalyst from Liyue's arsenal. The batch number has faded and no records exist to confirm the date of production.
The disc represents the cosmos and thus takes a circular form. At the center is a piece of Cor Purum, representing a heavenly body suspended in the firmament.
After the great chaos subsided, sinister forces still remained in the world. Thus, people abandoned traditional martial arts and tools and espoused the supernatural arts.
But the techniques used in catalyst production were antiquated, having remained unchanged in over a century. Thus, the catalysts of that age were fragile and broke on first use.
The thaumaturges flocked to Liyue and pleaded with Yun Hui, head of the house of Yun, to design a new type of catalyst for them.
Yun Hui proceeded to add a catalyst to the then-new series of improved weapon designs known as "the prototypes."
The disc is made of wood and rare ore. The Cor Purum in the center was a gift from the thaumaturges.
Cor Purum is produced by firing Cor Lapis in an urn for seven days squared (that is, forty-nine days) and then steeping it in fresh water drawn from a mountain spring for a further seven days squared.
The dual purification of fire and water renders Cor Purum unbreakable, and the thaumaturges also believe it allows the stone to act as a vessel for primordial cosmic energy. A catalyst with Cor Purum at its core can channel cosmic energy with the turning of the disc. Twelve full turns works the energy into its purest form.
Yun Hui observed that the Cor Purum had a warm, golden glow like that of amber. After discussion with the thaumaturges, he proposed to name the catalyst "Prototype Amber."
Thereafter, all catalysts made in Liyue were modeled on Yun Hui's prototype.
Trivia
- Prototype Amber was known as Prototype Malice upon release. This was later changed in version 1.2.
- Although the lore mentions that Cor Lapis is required to craft this weapon, the recipe does not require you to give it to the person crafting it and instead uses Crystal Chunks and White Iron Ore.
FAQs
Which character is best for prototype Amber?
Although Prototype Amber is not the best when it comes to dealing damage, it is definitely one of the best when it comes to healing. The Characters which benefit the most from it are Barbara and Kokomi. Barbara benefits not only from the passives, but also from the energy generation which the weapon’s passive provides.
Barbara’s poor energy regeneration issue is more forgivable with this weapon. Kokomi benefits a lot from this weapon as well as apart from healing, while in burst form, her damage is based on her HP as well. This means that this weapon will be a massive boost to her HP, making her consistently heal while dealing damage.
Is the prototype amber good?
While it is a solid weapon for healers, it is objectively better to use Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers instead, as it provides damage to your main damage dealer alongside healing. The fact that this weapon also has HP% as a secondary stat adds to this comparison. The only downside to Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers is that it is a 3 Star Weapon. However, this will not be a problem as these characters are capable of healing even without the help of extra HP.
Is Prototype Amber Good for Kokomi?
Prototype Amber is a decent choice for a Burst DPS Kokomi because her attacks scale off of her HP while in her burst form. This also helps with her energy regeneration, which is pretty difficult with Kokomi as her Bake-Kurage only produces a small amount with it.Is prototype Amber Good for Kokomi?
Final Thoughts
Prototype Amber is a weapon that requires very specific characters for it to be usable. If you are new to the game, don’t waste your billet on this weapon as there are much better alternatives out there. Using a weapon like Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers (TTDS) is a good alternative for this weapon because it not only provides increased HP, but also buffs your main DPS character if used right. TTDS is relatively very easy to obtain as well, making this weapon not as worth to craft.
