What's most exciting as well as terrifying about finding treasures in Red Dead Redemption 2 via the treasure maps you find in the world is that it doesn't hold your hands at all.
The maps Arthur Morgan finds will only give you a landscape and a specific location inside it where you can find the next clue for that treasure. The terrifying fact is that this landscape can be pretty much anywhere in the massive world of Red Dead Redemption 2.

However, what's really exciting about all of this is that it makes you feel like a real treasure hunter living in America during the Wild West. I spent an entire Sunday morning with a friend of mine looking for the "High Stakes treasure" in the game. It took us about 4-5 hours discussing and brainstorming which area would the map be pointing at, even after finding the exact landscape, it isn't easy to find the particular spot where the treasure is being held at. It took us quite a while to get and even though the reward could have been much better, the journey was all that mattered in the end.
