Personality of Redd

Redd is a cunning little fox who frequently appears in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. He sells both authentic and counterfeit paintings and sculptures as well as overpriced furniture items. However, some of the sculptures and artworks in his inventory are pretty rare and sell for a fortune in New Horizons. They also make good decorative items. The artworks available in his inventory are a replication of real paintings by renowned artists.

Only a keen eye can distinguish between an authentic and a counterfeit. Redd is an outspoken persuasive character with a rather sarcastic flair.

Personality of Redd

He gets extremely crass if the player leaves his Trawler purchasing nothing. On the flip side, he turns extremely sweet if the players end up buying one of his artworks.

For a reason that is still shrouded in mystery, Redd considers Tom Nook as his competition. Several theories have surfaced on the internet. Both Tom and Redd sell furniture and other items. Be that as it may, Tom Nook is considered trustworthy while Redd is known for selling fake pieces of art.

Redd is also a compulsive liar and will sell fake stories about his paintings and sculptures to convince the players to buy them.

Appearance of Redd

Redd is a yellow-orange fox who has brown eyes and a brown nose. The inside of his ears is pink and he has a white tail and white paws.

Appearance of Redd

The players can spot him on their islands wearing a blue apron with a ginkgo leaf on it, a pattern similar to Tom Nooks.

Redd didn’t appear in the game when it was launched. Rather, he was added as part of the Earth Day update. The players need to fulfill a set of activities in order for Redd to appear on their island.

The players need to upgrade the Town Museum by donating a total of 60 bugs, fish and fossils. This is when Blathers will appear on the island and will inform the players that he is accepting art donations.

It is likely that you will hear about Redd on the island’s shore. Upon interacting with him, Redd will try to sweet talk you into purchasing one of his paintings. He will ask for a ludicrous price but will end the sale by offering one of his family discounts.

If the art piece the player's purchase is genuine, they can donate it to the museum. Doing so will help Blathers in upgrading the museum.

Role of Redd in Wild World

Redd appears in the game once a week on a day the players can decide with Lyle and he sets a tent outside Town Hall. The players will need a password to access his stall which the player won’t have. Only one villager on the island will have the password. Players will have to interact with other villagers to be able to enter his stall.

But the players will have to pay a sum of 3,000 bells to enter their tent. Redd will push the players out of his tent if they fail to pay. He will return again next week but the players will have to repeat the entire process again.

Role of Redd in New Leaf

Redd sets up a similar tent in New Leaf. As expected, his main task in the game is to sell artwork but he also sells statues in New Leaf. The pieces of art can either be authentic or forged. In New Leaf, however, it is easier to spot which ones are forged as they contain noticeable changes.

Role of Redd in New Leaf

Unlike the statues, some paintings are always genuine and don’t have forged copies. The players can only purchase a single item from his store per day. Moreover, he also appears in the game at the New Year’s Eve and Fireworks show at the plaza.

Role of Redd in New Horizons

Redd appears in New Horizons as Jolly Redd and runs a shady store out of an old boat called Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler.

The players can find him loitering around the island, waiting for someone to fall prey to his antics. He will invite the players over to his boat to look at magnificent pieces of art. It is important to note that the painting and the sculpture will always be genuine the first time around. In the subsequent times, however, the players will need to be more careful. He offers four pieces of art and two pieces of furniture. It is possible that there might be more than one genuine piece. In the same way, it is possible that all of them might be forgeries.

Role of Redd in New Horizons

Redd was also the host of the Fireworks show in August 2020, which occurred on Sunday evenings. He set up a stall outside Resident Services allowing the players to earn raffle prizes. The price of the raffle ticket was 500 bells and gave the players a shot at a specific Fireworks item.

Amiibo Cards

One of the major functions of the Amiibo Cards in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is to invite villagers to visit your islands. The players, however, will need to construct the campground on the island for the villagers to visit. The players can convince the villagers to stay on their islands for a while and with some special characters, they can also convince them to become permanent members.

To use these Amiibo cards, the players need to head to Resident Services once the Townhall is unlocked.

The players will be able to spot an ATM-like machine that will allow them to use their cards.

Q. How often does Redd appear on the Animal Crossing island?

Like other special characters, Redd doesn’t appear on the island very often. He is available during the Fireworks Show and appears once the players reach a certain level in the game. Apart from that, the players can spot him loitering around the island once every two weeks.

Q. Is Redd trustworthy?

No, he isn’t. He is known for selling forged paintings at ludicrous prices. He will also do his best to convince the players to buy the artwork even if it is fake. Be that as it may, he extends his sincere gratitude as soon as the players make a purchase.

Q. Are all Redd’s paintings fake?

In the previous titles, there was a huge chance that all his paintings might be genuine. In New Horizons, however, there is a greater chance that no artwork might be genuine or no more than one artwork might be genuine.

Final Words

Despite his erratic behavior, Redd is one of the more popular characters in the Animal Crossing franchise. The reason behind his cold attitude still remains shrouded in mystery. Be that as it may, he is pretty vocal about his issues with Tom Nook and considers him as his competition.

Even though he sells fake artwork, the FIreworks Show in Animal Crossing has become a huge success owing to his antics. The players criticized New Horizons for how aloof all the characters seemed when the game was launched. This is probably why Redd was introduced in the game to make things more interesting.
