To start, Dusk Golem claimed that the movie might be handled by Screen Gems and Constantin Films who apparently have a contract with Capcom to maintain their publishing rights to Resident Evil media. The movie adaptation of Resident Evil 0 is supposed to feature Billy Coen and Rebecca Chambers, the two main characters from the 2002 Nintendo GameCube original.

Interestingly, Dusk Golem believes that Constantin Films is contractually bound to release a new Resident Evil movie every 5 fiscal years if they want to retain the filmmaking rights to the franchise.

"So here's some educated speculation, but it IS speculation, on how I personally believe Resident Evil stuff is going to go down in the next couple years. So Screen Gems/Constantin Films have a contract that to retain the rights to the Resident Evil brand for film making, they need to release a new Resident Evil film every 5 years (fiscal).

He further claimed that the new Resident Evil film is likely to be an adaptation of Resident Evil Zero and should be released before the fiscal year 2026 finishes.

So the new Resident Evil film directed by Zach Cregger that starts filming pretty soon basically needs to release before fiscal year 2026 is up, since Welcome to Raccoon City released in 2021. It's been heavily rumored/leaked this film is an adaption of Resident Evil Zero, with Rebecca & Billy starring in it.

As such, the leaker thinks that Nintendo is likely to "strike a deal" with Capcom to secure exclusivity rights to the remake for their next-gen console which is yet to be revealed officially. Next year would mark the franchise's 50th anniversary as the original was released in 1996.

Dusk Golem believes this is a good opportunity for the publisher to market both this title and the upcoming Resident Evil 9. All of this is an educated guess from the leaker based on details he has learned over the years from sources, so it remains to be seen how Capcom handles it.
