While rumors initially circulated about the possibility of a Resident Evil 4 Remake PS VR version, nothing was ever verified. That is, until Capcom debuted the first trailer for Resident Evil 4 VR Mode at the PlayStation Showcase, which had fans ecstatic. The game was first announced last year, and while a virtual reality version of the iconic horror game was released on the Meta Quest 2 headset, it had its foundation in the original.

What is Resident Evil 4 Remake about?

In Resident Evil 4, Leon Kennedy, the same rookie cop from Resident Evil 2, returns. This time, he's a US government agent tasked with rescuing the president's daughter, Ashley, from some sick Spaniards. A mysterious plague has engulfed the community, causing people to become enraged and nasty, leaving Leon to navigate an intricate network of ambushes and traps.

Meanwhile, in the background, Albert Wesker and Ada Wong, among others, engage in typical Resident Evil hijinks. Those who have previously played the original game will comprehend exactly what Resident Evil 4 Remake is really about. This plot appears to be quite identical to the basis of the original, which was to be anticipated. Given the length of the original Resident Evil 4, certain unexpected twists and turns are possible, as Capcom has a lot of discretion in rearranging specific events to make it feel fresh.

The new trailer featured some very normal Resident Evil fodder, such as Dr Salvador attacking Leon with a chainsaw. In a blog post, Resident Evil marketing producer Edvin Edsö described it as the "ultimate immersion experience. Because the game takes place in VR, the perspective changes from third person to a fully immersive first-person view," he explained. "From Leon's perspective, you can really take in the environment's details and atmosphere."

Resident Evil 4 remake, like Resident Evil 7 and Village, is a third-person shooter by design, but it appears that the whole experience is currently being rebuilt from the ground up in VR. It's unclear whether the complete game will be available with PSVR2; the initial announcement merely mentioned "PSVR2 content." Because Capcom's VR offerings have only recently started development, the world might not see exactly what the developer is working on for Resident Evil 4 for some time.

Edvin Edsö, promotion producer for Resident Evil, also wrote in the PlayStation blog that “One of the themes of the RE4 was to delve deeper into the intentions of the original game, so the scares and intensity are more pronounced, but when played in VR you can enjoy even more intense and unsettling situations. In the earliest village stage shown in the trailer, which fans will recognize from the original game, you can feel the sinister intent of the Ganados and the gripping tension of a last-ditch, life-or-death attack.”
