"Review bombing is not the answer": A fan pleads with The Finals community to stop trying to kill the game

It’s been a little over six months since the launch of The Finals, and the community is already criticizing the decisions of the developers at Embark Studios. The game has been seeing an amazing response from the majority of players who vouch that it's one of the better FPS games that came in the last two years. However, a fraction of the player base is voicing strong opinions about the ranked system and other balance changes.

A Reddit user u/Hamerine recently posted on r/thefinals requesting the community to make their opinions known more constructively instead of dissing the game.

Embark Studios has made a bold decision about the ranked system in The Finals Season 3. The Terminal Attack game mode will be the primary ranked game mode instead of Cash Out, and the community is divided because of this.

The argument is that The Finals is a fast-paced action FPS title and the original Cash Out mode embodies the character of the game. People who liked playing ranked are sad about Terminal Attack replacing Cashout in Season 3.

On the other side, many players prefer the original competitive feeling from famous FPS titles like Counter-Strike and Valorant. Terminal Attack is Embark Studios' rendition of a similar game mode in The Finals. It’s definitely more strategic and less chaotic, attracting many players to prefer this game mode.

Desperate to keep the community healthy and positive, Hamerine urged everyone not to review bomb The Finals on Steam or constantly complain about the game mode. He assured everyone that Cashout is going to remain the core identity of the game and is certainly scheduled to return as a ranked game mode in Season 4. This is what he said:

"Season 3 is about to come out, now is not the time for this behavior, we don’t really know yet how it will turns out. Review bombing is not the answer, posting over and over that TA is not your jam isn’t the answer. They will bring back Cash out as ranked season 4, most certainly."

That said, the impression that the game is dying comes from a few players who are constantly portraying negative impressions instead of giving constructive criticism or reviews. Another Reddit user, u/BusOfSelfDoubt, pointed out the issue in this comment:

No matter which side you’re on or what changes you think should be made in the game, there’s no denying that the developers at Embark Studios are trying really hard to make the game run. They are releasing another new map and a ton of fresh weapons and gadgets in Season 3 and everyone is excited about it. The cashout game mode is also there and the developers are working to make the game mode better.

With rumors of a competitive tournament of The Finals floating around and seeing the effort that the developers are putting in to push new content and keep the game fresh consistently, it’s safe to say that The Finals is nowhere close to being dead.

The players who have experienced the adrenaline rush of the game know how unique it is and the potential it has leading them to support the game with all their heart. To quote u/Hamerine again, his positive outlook and remark should be something every The Finals player should listen to if they truly want the game to grow:

"Let’s just enjoy the game for what is it, as the game loop is unique and getting better week after week with regular balance updates, let’s enjoy it’s identity, let it grow, let them cook.”
