Royal Greatsword is a weapon that was introduced along with the game’s release. The only way to obtain this weapon is through Paimon’s Bargains. Part of the Royal series, this weapon shares the category along with Royal Bow, Royal Grimoire, Royal Longsword and Royal Spear. While having an ATK% substat, this weapon also has a passive that makes it much easier for rapid fire characters to crit with. The increase in CRIT Rate at maximum stacks is really high, in turn letting you invest completely on CRIT DMG.
This weapon was crafted under the supervision of the Lawrence Clan with the best materials available to protect Mondstat from monsters who threatened it. Due to the high quality of the materials used, this weapon still stands strong, without a loss in quality even after all these years. Originally used to protect Mondstat from monsters, it was eventually used in gladiatorial combat for the pleasure of the aristocrats. The wielders of the weapon turned into the monsters they sought to destroy.

Story
A greatsword once used by nobles who ruled over Mondstadt. It was made using premium materials and masterful craftsmanship.
For that reason, even after being passed down for generations, it is still as good as new.
Combat was once a responsibility of the nobles.
They protected their people from monsters that threatened peace and stability.
Unfortunately, they all but forgot their responsibilities, which turned them into the very monsters they once sought to destroy.
Research suggests that gladiatorial combat originated in a religious context during the rule of the Aristocracy.
Now outlawed by the Knights of Favonius, it began as a sacrificial ceremony held jointly with prayers to the gods.
Though the practice was later turned into a perverted sport for the Lawrence Clan's pleasure, and subsequently abolished by the Knights,
Some texts of the original prayers still remain.
"O guardian winds of Mondstadt. Look after me, my friends, my countrymen, and my opponent. May the sound of clashing blades delight you, and may the offering of sweat and blood please you."
"O winds that guide my path. When I'm exhausted, bless me with the strength to keep going forward. When I'm uncertain, bless me with the wisdom to distinguish good from evil."
Trivia
- The Gladiatorial combat conducted by this sword was actually a sacrifice to the anemo archon.
FAQs
Is Royal Greatsword a good weapon in Genshin Impact?
Royal Greatsword is generally a bad weapon due to how slowly Claymore characters hit. However, for every scenario, there is an exception. Claymore characters that rely on fast hitting skills or burst benefit a lot from this weapon.
An example is Beidou, who has a burst which travels between enemies dealing electro damage. This damage is quite fast and can trigger the next stack faster, making it so you can utilise the passive more effectively.
Who can use Royal greatsword?
Although there are a lot of characters that can use the Royal Greatsword, not everyone can fully utilise it. In either case, there are much better alternatives for every character, including the alternate weapon ‘Blackcliff Slasher’.
Characters which can utilise the benefits of the Royal Greatsword are Razor, Eula and Aratakki Itto due to high ATK SPD and Beidou due to rapid burst ticks. While this weapon can be good, there are much better options, sometimes even stronger free to play options for these characters.
Why is the Royal Greatsword bad Genshin?
Royal Greatsword is bad because it relies heavily on getting in lots of attacks during a short period of time. It needs you to get 5 attacks in before you can utilise this weapon to its full efficiency. This is rendered useless because there are weapons which can provide the same stats without needing to be so gimmicky. It also doesn’t help that Claymore characters are generally slow hitting.
Final Thoughts
Although having a unique passive compared to other weapons out there, Royal Claymore is incredibly underwhelming for the amount it is priced at. The weapon relies on gimmicks to land a critical hit. This wouldn’t be as much of an issue for rapid hitting weapons. However, Greatsword users are generally very slow compared to other characters. Due to this, they can’t utilise the passive completely, making this weapon useless comparatively.
