NetherRealm rumored to explore an action-adventure Mortal Kombat game or something based on Injustice
Trusted insider @thevscooper on X, who has a good track record of sharing convincing leaks and updates on video games in the past, recently shared a post. While dropping the major rumor, the account wrote that NetherRealm studio is exploring an action-adventure mode or spin-off based on its titles. The scooper then mentioned that the game in consideration might be Mortal Kombat, but Injustice is also not far behind.
NetherRealm's Ed Boon previously expressed his interest in a spin-off based on an old MK title called MK: Shaolin Monks.
Another crucial thing to note is that Shaolin Monks was initially meant to be a single-player project. Later, it was turned into a co-op-based game. It featured fan favorites like Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion as the primary playable characters. There was also a versus mode that added extra characters to the lineup.

So is it safe to say that a new action-adventure game based on Shaolin Monks is on the way? It's too early to make any prediction at the moment, as suggested by the insider.
Moreover, the rumor mentions Injustice, but seeing it getting a new installment is hard. Simply because the series has lost its popularity and significance in recent years. The last main title under this IP was Injustice 2, which was released way back in 2017.
For now, fans should wait and take everything with a grain of salt unless there comes an official announcement.
