Nintendo’s Amiibo’s have been quite the rage ever since its announcement in June last year. The figurines have become a major part of the company’s product line, with each wave selling out a few hours after their release. And now it looks like Nintendo’s upcoming third-person shooter, Splatoon, might be getting its own line of Amiibo’s figurines.
The rumours of a Splatoon Amiibo surfaced last week after a certain South African retailer posted listings and images of the figurines. An official eShop listing for the game also hints at the possibility of a Splatoon Amiibo. The South African retailer has also listed some new Super Smash Bros. Amiibo (like Greninja) which should be out sometime soon, though they remain unannounced at this time. It’s also possible that these listings are merely based on a speculation, so it’s best not get your hopes up until Nintendo makes an official announcement.
As for the eShop listing for Splatoon, users can find the name Amiibo mentioned in the “Related Softwares” section. Only Nintendo games with Amiibo support have had this listed. So while this could imply that Splatoon may also include Amiibo support, it doesn’t guarantee that Nintendo will make a separate line of Splatoon Amiibo’s for the game. This is similar to games like Mario Kart 8, which also includes Amiibo support, where the figurines give special costumes or weapons in the game.
So while a Splatoon Amiibo collection may be a possibility, it is probably best for wait for an official announcement from Nintendo. It’s likely that the game will include Amiibo support at the very least. The game has not received an official release date yet, but hopefully Nintendo will reveal this at the next Nintendo Direct.
