"Same unchanged maps and modes": Apex Legends pro sweetdreams comments about the lack of gameplay content

Apex Legends professional player Christopher "sweetdreams" Sexton, currently playing for Luminosity Gaming (LG), made a recent post on X to highlight the lack of gameplay content during the Winter holidays. He started with a vague comparison to other games that received special updates for this season and said,

“With all the options coming out right now with games and other games new game modes, trust our game apex legends has decided to not change anything during winter break and keep the same unchanged maps and modes for 9 weeks. The devs got bit I think”

Sweet made this comment after Apex Legends Season 23 Split 2 was released, which introduced a new mythical-tier weapon to the casual playlist and the Winter Express Limited Time Mode (LTM). Apart from this, the game only received a new Milestone event that brought many new skins for both characters and weapons (including a recolor of an existing Heirloom).

This X post gained the attention of the masses as u/allforthedillydilly embedded Sweet’s take on the Apex Legends subeddit and cited that to be the absolute truth and that EA’s battle royale does not have any new content. They also stated that bringing back variations of skins and buffing a single category to change the in-game meta is not new gameplay content.

The community rallied behind this perspective and commented about the lack of new innovative ideas from the developers. u/Far_Day_3985 highlighted that the player base might be tired of the genre of Apex Legends and are looking for big changes that may never arrive. The comment also compares the most recent updates that introduced a new character and a new map, both of which failed to bring back the missing spark.

u/TimProVision stated that the silence on social media about leaks already showcased that there might not be anything new in the game. The comment further noted the newest ideas that were integrated into EA’s battle royale. Although the devs brought in many new weapon balances, everything fell into chaos after the Rift Relics were introduced. The Support meta created a stale character pick rate that further removed any chance of variation.

Other comments also portray a similar outlook as players comment about a funneling system where the community is forced to either pick the meta characters and guns or risk being handicapped in ranked matches. The story is similar for casual modes as most hunt down Rift weapons that can overpower normal ground loot with ease.

The release of a single LTM for the holiday season is a small update compared to other live service titles that provide complete map makeovers alongside different game modes.

What is the new LTM mode in Apex Legends Season 23 Split 2?

Apex Legends Season 23 Split 2 received the Winter Express LTM alongside a new milestone event and winter-themed cosmetics. Winter Express is a domination-type game mode wherein players compete to keep control of a moving train on the World’s Edge map. The train stops at different spots and allows squads to participate in gunfights while activating the capture objective.

A total of three teams are present in each lobby and each team is a trio. The team that secures the objective three times is crowned the winner. The game mode also comes with some daily challenges that you can complete to earn Ice Gems. These gems can be exchanged at the rewards shop to claim items for free.
