No Japanese role-playing game fan hasn’t heard of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise, the crown jewel of Atlus. Shin Megami Tensei 5 is the latest major installment of the series. Since the Japanese developers created this game using a lot of gameplay mechanics from the previous titles, Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne and Shin Megami Tensei IV, it had everything a fan should expect from a JRPG.

Shin Megami Tensei 5 Release Date

Shin Megami Tensei 5 hit the shelves in Japan on November 11, 2021, and was released worldwide the following day. Moreover, an enhanced version of the game, Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance, will be released on June 14, 2024.

Shin Megami Tensei 5 Platform

This role-playing game was released on Nintendo Switch. However, the upcoming enhanced version of the game, Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance, would not only be released on Switch but also on Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Moreover, it would also be available on last-generation consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Shin Megami Tensei 5 Editions

This 2021-released game was available as physical and digital copies. There were special editions for both formats. There are two editions for the physical copies, Steelbook and Premium Editions.

  • Steelbook Edition: This edition of the game offered the base game but in a steel book cover.

  • Premium Edition: It was targeted for hardcore fans or collectors, who like to own physical goods related to the game. So, this edition included everything from Steelbook Edition along with two CD Soundtracks, Demon Handbook, Sling Bag, and Collector’s Box. The Digital copies of the game were also available in two editions, Standard and Deluxe.

  • Standard Edition: This edition would only include the digital copy of the game.

  • Deluxe Edition: It would include everything from the Standard Edition but also special DLC content like A Goddess in Training, The Rage of a Queen, The Doctor’s Last Wish, Return of the True Demon, Mitama Dance of Wealth, Mitama Dance of Exp, and Mitama Dance of Miracles. It will also include Japanese Voices and Safety Difficulties.

Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance

Atlus has developed an enhanced version called Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance. This game would allow players to enjoy the original game’s story, the “Canon of Creation” route. However, it would also have an alternate story, the “Canon of Vengeance” route, which would initially have similarities to the original game but the later part would be drastically different.

This edition of the game would also feature new locations, features, gameplay mechanics, and new demons. Moreover, it would not only be released on Swithc but on other platforms like PCs and consoles.

Is Shin Megami Tensei V on Xbox?

Yes, Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance is available for both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles.Unlike the Persona series of video games however, SMTV Vengeance is not available on Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service, and costs $59.99 for the Standard version.
