You can opt for the Miner profession as soon as you reach the Level 5 Mining Skill in Stardew Valley. The profession provides you with one extra ore per vein, meaning you nearly get double the ore for every vein you mine. This reduces the early-game grind by a substantial amount and allows you to stockpile weapon and tool upgrade materials early on in Stardew Valley.

Considering the large number of materials required to upgrade the farm and craft various machinery for thriving in the Valley, investing in this profession means you will have an easier time doing automation and industrialization on your farm.

Level 10 profession for Miner

If you continue on the Miner path, you will get a choice between the Blacksmith and Prospector professions at Level 10. The Blacksmith increases the selling price of Metal Bars by 50%, while the Prospector doubles the chance of finding Coal. Both are decent choices, but choosing the Blacksmith will lead to significantly higher profits.

You can opt for the Geologist profession on Level 5 of Mining Skill. This profession has a 50% chance to double the gems you receive, meaning you can obtain twice the gems from Geodes and Omni Geodes by mining inside the dungeons.

However, most upgrades and recipes that use gems are locked in the late game, so you won’t notice the benefits of the Geologist profession right away. It truly shines during the late-game when you need that extra supply of Diamonds, Emeralds, and Prismatic Shards to craft high-level weapons and enchantments.

Level 10 profession for Geologist

If you continue the Geologist path, you will get a choice between Excavator and Gemologist professions at Level 10. The Excavator doubles the chances of finding Geodes from rocks inside Skull Cavern and the Mines, while the Gemologist will raise the selling price of all gems by 30%. Both are excellent choices, but choose the Gemologist if you want to make more money.

The Miner provides early access to advanced tools and machinery that can improve Stardew Valley's early-game experience for newcomers. It substantially reduces the early-game grind for currency and resources, thereby improving the gameplay experience.

On the other hand, the Geologist is suited for the long run. Gems are rare to find and you will need multiple of them to complete quests, upgrade weapons, and increase friendship levels with NPCs.

Simply put, Miner will make your early game easier, while the Geologist will make the late game more manageable. Carefully analyze your playstyle and decide what is the best choice for you.
