One of the requirements to achieve the secret ending in Dragon Age The Veilguard is to obtain Mythal's power. To achieve this, the party must either battle with or come to an understanding with Mythal. The method of peaceful resolution results in a conversation with Mythal to see reason, while choosing the offensive route can be more taxing on the party and involve a lengthy battle.

Despite this, choosing a specific method is the only way to acquire Mythal's power. In any case, fighting or conversing with Mythal can only be done once the prompt to speak shows up. Below are the events which unfold when either option is chosen.

The conversation with Mythal takes place during the Regrets of the Dead Wolf quest in Dragon Age The Veilguard, which delves deeper into Solas' story. Morrigan will inform the party of Mythal's whereabouts, which can be traveled to on the Caretaker's boat. Head over to the location, and speak with Mythal. Two options will be available at the end of the conversation, which are “I want your help” and “You’re not going to help us.

Should You’re not going to help us be chosen, Mythal will transform into a towering Level 45 dragon termed Mythal's Retribution who needs to be taken down. Despite the players' best efforts in defeating her, Mythal's Retribution will not be dropped at the end of this fight. Doing this also locks players out of witnessing the secret ending to the game.

On the other hand, the ideal method would be to engage in peaceful conversation with Mythal, which can be done by selecting the optionI want your help. After this, she will ask some questions that must be answered in a particular manner to acquire Mythal's essence, which is important to achieve the secret ending. This peaceful resolution also keeps the criteria for achieving the game's good ending active.

Answer Mythal's questions in the following manner after choosing the “I want your help” option:

  1. "We must stop the Blight."
  2. "You stood against it."
  3. "We must stop the Gods."
  4. "They wronged you."
  5. "Solas is helping us"
  6. "You respected him."

Should these exact options be chosen, Mythal will be pleased with the answers and will offer up her Essence to the party in the form of a figurine. Additionally, she also offers a favor, which can be cashed in during the fight with the Revenant Dragon in the Heart of the Corruption quest.

So, if you wish to engage in battle and test your skills without wanting to achieve the secret ending, fight with Mythal. Alternatively, if you wish to resolve the issue peacefully and proceed towards the secret ending, engage in conversation with Mythal and choose the options that please her.

The latter also provides an easier final encounter with Solas and a helping hand during the Revenant Dragon fight, so choose wisely.
