Gold Armor is one of many Apex Legends gameplay content removed from the game a while back. This removal caused quite a commotion, as the developers overhauled the entire EVO Shield progression and removed all shields from ground loot. Now, with Season 23 just around the corner, this has reignited discussions within the community about whether Gold Armor is gone for good or if it might return to the battle royale in future updates. A Reddit user, u/Savings_Impact_4344, highlighted this conversation in a post, stating:
“8 months ago Gold Armor was removed, should it return or is the concept outdated?”
The original post outlined the availability of health bars during gunfights and suggested that the return of Gold Armor in Apex Legends could become an additional mechanic to learn, particularly for newcomers. Its ability to heal better with smaller medical supplies could potentially confuse players, as the current bar highlights enemy health for a short duration. Despite this, the user thinks that it should make a comeback.

The post quickly gained some traction and amassed various users providing their own opinions in the comments section. u/throwaway3260247 stated that the problem was not the variety of armor but players who would adopt a pacifist strategy and remain in the zone while healing to avoid gunfights.
u/No-Training9140 pointed out that the game now has a ring timer that limits the time a player can stay outside the circle, rectifying zone camping issues and length rotations.
Another user, u/NightmaricFox, commented that the developers might want to add a choice between upgrading to either Red or Gold Armor in Apex Legends. It is a constructive idea that could be adopted while providing a meaningful upgrade for the final armor level.
u/BlackhawkRogueNinjaX chimed in with agreement and provided the same approach where the armor would remain independent of characters and their classes.
u/guosecond expanded on this idea and cited that the current upgrade to the final armor level does not have any significant incentives other than the extra 25 shield points. While that is a major advantage in gunfights, the option to choose between faster healing on Gold Armor and extra health on Red Armor could be a healthy route.

That said, not everyone supports the return of this special shield, as it can cause balance issues in Apex Legends. The devs could bring in niche balances for the return of Gold Armor might still be possible. However, such major decisions can only be made by the publisher, as they hold the final decision-making power.
