Despite fans being extremely excited to play Silent Hill 2 Remake, what might annoy most gamers is the poor optimization, especially on PC. The gameplay feels laggy and experiences frame drops and stuttering issues. Even though up-scaling can help boost performance a little, the overall experience might not be that good considering the standards of modern video games. To fix this, try the below-mentioned points:
Check for driver updates
Check if there are any driver updates available. If so, download and install them. If you own an Nvidia GPU, open GeForce Experience to check for updates. In case you own an AMD GPU, check for updates by opening the AMD Adrenalin Edition software. You can also try turning down your resolution to experience improved frame rates. Moreover, make sure to turn on FSR Frame Generation.
Verify game files
To potentially improve your experience, you can start by verifying the game files. You can do so by following these steps:
- Launch Steam on your PC
- Open your Game Library.
- Right-click on the game and open Properties.
- Browse through all of the options and go to the Installed Files tab.
- Select 'Verify Integrity of Game Files' and let Steam analyse everything.
- After this is done, try opening the game and check if the performance is improved or not.
Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS)
Even though HAGS should be kept disabled, you can try turning it on to try to get stable frame rates. Additionally, you can set Silent Hill 2 to High Priority via the Task Manager to reduce stuttering issues.
Switch Direct X versions
Even though the game runs on Direct X12 by default, running Silent Hill 2 on DX11 might improve the game's performance. If by any chance DX11 is selected, you can try switching to DX12 as well. To do so:
- Open Steam and go to Game Library
- Open Properties of Silent Hill 2 by right-clicking on the game tile
- Under the General tab, type -dx11/ -dx12 in the Launch Options box.
