Skyward Spine was released in version 1.0 as a standard banner weapon. However, this weapon only appeared as a featured weapon only in version 2.0, alongside Mistsplitter Reforged. Although it has high Base ATK, the secondary stat of energy recharge made this weapon almost unviable until the introduction of Emblem of Severed Fate artifact set and Raiden Shogun. This weapon’s lore is heavily linked to Dvalin, symbolising his resolve.

How to get Skyward Spine in Genshin Impact?
Skyward Spine was featured on the Epitome Invocation once, along with Ayaka during her banner. However, this weapon can be obtained from the Standard Banner as well. There is a 1/15 chance that the 5 star you pull from your standard banner is a Skyward Spine. There is also a chance for getting Skyward Spine upon failing a 75/25 on the weapons banner. Alternatively, if the polearm is featured on Epitome Invocation, you can guarantee it by setting an Epitomized Path.

Story
A spine that holds up the sky.
The true companion of the Anemo Archon never wavered in its desire to protect the land of wind.
This unshakeable resolve sustained the wind dragon through its mortal battle against its vile nemesis.
In olden times, the shadow dragon Durin, covetous of the peace Mondstadt enjoyed, came forth to defile the land.
Durin's black wings blotted out the sky, releasing clouds of toxic fumes,
So much so that even the thousand winds could not hold their pestilence and rot at bay,
And thus fell black rain from the skies, the din of their downpour drowning the cries and groans of the people.
The Anemo Archon was awakened by the sound of their agony, and his heart was pierced by their despair.
So he summoned Dvalin to his side, and shrouding themselves in storm, they pierced through the poisoned skies.
The great dragon plunged in with a cry, tearing a swathe through the noxious nimbus the shadow dragon had created.
Following his wings came a great, swift whirlwind that destroyed those venomous clouds.
Dvalin seized the poisonous dragon in his mighty claws, ascending to heights that even clouds could not fathom.
The poisonous rain had scattered as the clouds had been left behind, and the burning skies became the dragons' battleground.
At last the wind dragon's razor fangs pierced his foe's throat, and his great claws tore out its corrupted heart.
The sinners' creation, filled with eternal regret, fell from the spotless skies and fell to ruin upon a snowy peak.
That fierce battle in the distant skies had thus defended the people of the Anemo Archon.
But at the moment of his triumph, the venomous ichor of his foe had flowed between his teeth and into his guts.
The pain withered bone and marrow, and in his agony the great wind dragon curled up in the depths of an ancient ruin.
...Nursing his wounds, Dvalin still believed that one day, he would be reawakened.
He would again pierce the heavens, scatter the darkness, and sing to the sounds of the lyre of the Anemo Archon, his dear friend.
Trivia
- Although being in the game since launch, the Skyward Spine has no BiS user due to its generally stingy stats.
- The lore section of the weapon does not mention the weapon itself or how the weapon is created, but rather the events that show the fiery will of Dvalin.
FAQs
What is the Skyward spine good for?
Skyward Spine is a generally bad weapon. Not only does it have low substats, it is generally a bad choice for many characters and can sometimes even be outclassed by 4 star weapons. It can be good for an auto attack spam character due to the increased attack speed. The vacuum blade can be used to group enemies together as well.
Is the Skyward spine good on Zhongli?
Skyward Spine is a decent option for Burst Spam Zhongli. However, the passives of this weapon will be useless due to the general playstyle of the character.
Is the Skyward spine good for Thoma?
Thoma is one of the few characters that can utilize Skyward Spine. While not the best for him, it does provide him with energy recharge. The vacuum is a good ability that can be triggered by Thoma without a DPS loss from the main DPS, making it a viable option.
Final Thoughts
To put it straight, Skyward Spine is a bad weapon. Consider yourself unlucky if you pulled this from the Standard Banner after that long awaited pity because it does not have much viability. It has the building cost of a 5 star and the benefits of a lower tier 4 star weapon. Unless you really have your eyes set on a character you want to try this on, don’t waste your valuable resources on this weapon. It almost always has a better alternative.
