Does anyone miss Sonic the Hedgehog? Gamers will remember the much loved Sonic Generations but little after that, considering all the releases post Sonic Generations have been quite average with respect to gameplay. Sadly we also remember the disaster that was Sonic Boom:Rise of Lyric, undoubtedly the worst game in the series. Keeping all this in mind, we weren’t quite surprised when Sega restricted it’s focus to mobile gaming, vis-a-vis, Sonic Runners, while leaving out console gaming. However if you thought Sonic’s console gaming days are over, well, you’re mistaken. Sonic’s head has expressly confirmed hinted that Sonic’s run on consoles is far from over. Here is what Sonic Team’s Takashi Iizuka had to say in an interview with 4Gamer as to whether Sonic has permanently deserted the console game arena:“Currently we don’t. Now this product only, select the smart phone as a friendly platform to the user’s, just say F2P and that was suitable for there. Personally, I don’t plan to stop Sonic for home-video game consoles. Don’t worry about them! And enjoy!”
Maybe this isn’t the confirmation we were looking for, considering Sega Entertainment is the firm that makes all the prime decisions regarding development and marketing. However, if Sonic believes they still have a chance in the future, we can hardly doubt that. Perhaps Sonic Boom was atrocious, but we can hardly forget that this is the same franchise that gave us Sonic Generations and Sonic Colors. What the Sonic franchise truly is needs is a wake up call, remembering all the great gaming elements they’ve given us in the past and create something that will revive the Sonic fan club once again. We would like that infinitely better than having it outsourced to another company. Here’s a little Sonic Generations trailer to refresh your memory.
