If you are using outdated drivers, you might experience poor performance while gaming, regardless of your GPU. Make sure to keep your drivers up to date at all times to experience the best performance possible. If you are using an Nvidia card, you can do so via the Nvidia GeForce Experience software.

If you are using an AMD GPU, use the AMD Adrenaline Edition software to install the latest drivers.

Verify the integrity of game files

Having damaged save files can also lead to stuttering and crashing at times. To make sure your files are clean, verify your game files via Steam. Follow these steps:

  • Launch Steam on your PC
  • Open your Game Library.
  • Right-click on the game and open Properties.
  • Browse through all the options and go to the Installed Files tab.
  • Select 'Verify Integrity of Game Files' and let Steam analyze everything.

After this is done, try opening the game and check whether the performance has improved or not.

Poor ventilation and overheating

Another major reason behind performance issues while gaming on a PC can be because of poor ventilation, which elevates the temperature of the CPU and GPU. Make sure to have enough fans and space to maintain good airflow. Also, clean your PC by opening the side panels of your cabinet to remove accumulated dust particles to avoid overheating problems.
