Just like the real world, Stardew Valley also celebrates Christmas, but in the form of the Feast of Winter Star festival. The Pelican Town is decorated with Christmas lights, candy canes, and a giant Christmas tree at the center of the town. The main highlight of this festival is a secret gift-giving event where you have to exchange a gift with a random villager.

Just like the Luau festival, the Feast of Winter Star provides an opportunity to raise the friendship level with a specific citizen of the town. However, unlike the former, the friendship boost is restricted to only one citizen.
This guide includes all the gifts you can receive and everything else you need to know about the Winter Star festival in Stardew Valley.

You can participate in the event by heading to town between 9 AM and 2 PM. If you enter the town after festival timings, you will miss the entire Feast of the Winter Star and must wait until the next year to participate again.
Secret gift-giving in Feast of the Winter Star, explained
Gifting the secret friend will reward five times the usual friendship points (Image via ConcernedApe)
In the mail you receive on Winter 18, the Mayor will mention the name of the resident for whom you’ll be finding a gift during the Winter Star. This means you get a whole in-game week to prepare a gift that the character loves.

Whatever you decide to gift during the event will reward you with five times the normal amount of friendship points. So, it’s always worth going the extra mile to search for a gift they will love and appreciate. You can expect a tremendous boost to friendship by giving an item loved by the NPC, especially if they are one of the romance options in Stardew Valley.
To give your gift, simply head to the town square and search for the NPC mentioned in your mail. Upon interacting with them, you will get an option to select a gift from your inventory.

Once you’ve given your gift, a cutscene will trigger where your secret friend will approach and give their gift to you. If you don’t like your gift, you can restart the game to receive a different one but the NPC assigned to you will not change.
