During the festival, the people of Pelican Town come together to cook a potluck soup to share with the visiting Governor. You can add any edible ingredient to this potluck soup. Depending on your choice, the Governor will react in one of the seven ways:

These responses of the visiting Governor are affected by the following factors:

  • Quality of ingredients (normal/silver/gold/iridium)
  • The healing effect of the item
  • Base selling price

Hence, you are encouraged by Mayor Lewis to add something high quality. If you manage to get the best reaction, the people of the town will respect you, add something unexciting and you will lose friendship points with the entire town at once.

There’s also a secret response that you can trigger during the festival. While this one doesn’t affect your friendship with the village, it is rather hilarious and worth it if you’re looking for some humor.

To trigger this response, you must add Mayor Lewis’ Lucky Purple Shorts to the soup. You can get these from an event that takes place on the third day of summer. The mayor will send a letter requesting you to help find his shorts.

The shorts are located in Marnie’s bedroom. You can take these shorts and wait until the Festival to prank the Mayor and receive unique responses from the Governor and Mayor Lewis.
