Warning: Spoilers for Still Wakes the Deep are present, which you probably gathered based on the title of this article. Still, better safe than sorry.
Still Wakes the Deep is the latest horror title from The Chinese Room. While it sounds like something out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they're the developers behind 2013's Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs - which may be one of the greatest titles for anything ever.
Much like that title - and numerous scary games before it - Still Wakes the Deep doesn't exactly have what one would call a "happy ending." Or "cut and dry," either, to be honest.
If you've finished Still Wakes the Deep and want to see another perspective on the ending - or if you just want to know what happens without having to play it (no judgment here, by the way) - well, that's what we've got going on here. But, first - some context.

What is Still Wakes the Deep about, anyway?
Set on an oil rig out in the middle of the ocean, SWtD puts players in the rubber insulated boots of electrician and regular everyday normal dude Caz McLeary. The rig he's stationed on, the Biera D, has been invaded by evil, icky monsters. Therefore, it's up to Caz and the rest of his fellow crewmates to fight off these evil creatures and escape.
So, what happens?
At the end of the game, only two crew members remain - Caz and Finlay. While McCleary just wants to get the heck off this rig, Finaly is bound and determined to kill whatever it is that's been attacking them and save the entire world - or, at the very least, Scotland.
Sadly, Finlay is crushed under a ton of debris and, with her dying breath, convinces Caz to enter the domain of the creature and blow it up real good like. Our hero eventually relents, enters the monsters' domain, and blows it - and himself - up using a lighter.
We're not done with Mr. McLeary, however, as we get a look at his relationship with his wife, Suze. Up until this point in the game, their relationship has been portrayed as strained. During this sequence, however, we're shown their early - and significantly happier - days. After all the doom and gloom in the game so far, it's a refreshing change of pace.
It's at this point whre Caz (and, by proxy, the player) is given the opportunity to explore the moments of his life with his family at his leisure. Once he's done there, he'll enter a doorway that will carry him onward to the Great Beyond.
So... what happened?
Well, to put it bluntly... Caz is dead. Much like the opening of the game, we're treated to a letter from Suze to her husband. This time around, though, it's much more positive and loving. Suze loves Caz, and wants to fight to keep their marriage going. Not because it's what's best for the kids, or to keep up appearances, or to make their lives easier. It's because being with each other makes their lives better.
And, that's where the credits roll. Things are left purposefully ambiguous, with no real sense of closure - which was kind of the point.
Still Wakes the Deep is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series consoles - as well as on Game Pass.
