"Stop the cap": G2 teases Stewie2k entry, CS2 community thinks otherwise

Stewie2k played a big part in G2's iconic IEM Dallas 2024 victory. Returning from a long hiatus, the player replaced IGL HooXi and instantly fired all cylinders, as the team approached their win. Recently, G2 Esports participated in the BLAST Spring Finals where they lost to Team Vitality. Stewie2k was not part of that roster but now, the team has supposedly teased his comeback.

The official G2 Esports X handle posted a meme in true G2 fashion, hinting at his return to which a fan, @ThecatinHonkai, responded:

"Stop the cap."

The meme in G2's original X post portrays the return of Stewie2k in a cryptic anime scene. The post was captioned to appear as if G2 Esports couldn't fully believe the Counter-Strike 2 giant's comeback.

Some fans believed that the post was G2 lying to the fans regarding the comeback of Stewie2k. Meanwhile, others took it more lightly and considered it a prank instead.

Meanwhile, some CS2 fans of the team were certain that they were actually going to sign another famous player, malbsMd, instead. @Ammon-CS believed that the post was simply a switch-and-bait situation from G2.

On the other hand, @ridiculousongs was absolutely certain that the player G2 will sign was malbsMd instead. This certainty was reflected in many comments under the X post.

Finally, @SimbaaCS desperately urged G2 to just go ahead and sign Stewie2k after the player has contributed so well to the team's most recent win. Perhaps, they were one of the few fans who believed the tease from the team.

Will G2 sign malbsMd or Stewie2k?

Rumors about G2 Esport signing malbsMd have been floating for a few days now. The winning roster of IEM Dallas 2024 is most likely going to see a change. The organization has reportedly been in talks with M80 to hire their talented player malbsMd.

Moreover, G2 recently benched nexa six months after the player joined hands with the organization. On their social media handle, they put up a video thanking the player for his contributions to the team.

Now, nexa is open to joining other organizations. So that leaves at least one spot on the roster up for grabs. Not only has the organization been in talks with M80, but now they have even teased the return of Stewie2k. M80 is reportedly ready to lose malbsMd, and the player is on the lookout for a new team.

Since nexa was benched, the team's coach TaZ had acted as a temporary replacement. He even played with the team at the BLAST Spring Finals. This is the spot that would need replacing, and only time will tell who fills it.
