Super Mario RPG

Nintendo brought back the classic Super Mario RPG to Switch in 2023. The game was developed by Square for SNES in 1996. The game follows Nintendo’s renowned Italian plumber Mario on an adventure to repair the Star Road and defeat the Smithy Gang. Aside from the adventurous plot, the game also sees Mario team up with the most unexpected characters like Bowser.

Super Mario RPG Gameplay

Super Mario RPG features the typical role-playing mechanics that all games developed by Square had during that time. The gameplay focused a lot on isometric 3D platforming with turn-based battle and adventuring. Unlike many other JRPGs during this time, this one has no sudden encounters that help players avoid unnecessary fights.

The game begins with only Mario, but the party size increases to five as the story progresses. The party members’ order can be changed, depending on the player’s playing style and strategy. Each character in the game has unique skills and movesets.

Super Mario RPG was originally released on SNES in 1996. It was later added to Wii in 2008 and WiiU in 2015 via the Virtual Console service. Moreover, it was also released on 2017’s Super NES Classic Edition. Finally, ArtePiazza remade this 1996 classic for Switch and released on November 17, 2023.

Super Mario RPG Unlockables

Super Mario RPG has many unlockables after finishing tha game’s main story. Let’s look at all these post-game unlockables in this game.

• Sound Player: Completing the main story of this game on Switch unlocks a new feature called Sound Player. It helps play all the original and arranged versions of the game’s BGM.

• Monster List: Players would have access to the Moster List post-game which will provide various information about the monsters like HP, stats, weakness, and drop items.

• Boss Rematches: Players can again fight the bosses after completing the main story. However, the bosses would be stronger and drop better items, some of which are exclusive to the Switch remake.
