Dong revealed their latest open-world title to be the most ambitious project that Kuro has ever undertaken due to its sheer scale:
"From an investment perspective, Wuthering Waves is the most ambitious project Kuro has ever undertaken. In terms of the project's significance, we are doing many things that have no precedent in Kuro's history, requiring us to navigate the solution step by step."
Developing an open-world live service title surely comes with a big risk, especially when it comes to maintaining it. Despite lacking much experience in this genre, Kuro Games managed to deliver a solid experience that people loved.
The senior producer stated that many things were new for the team when it came to designing the open world. This is understandable as Punishing Gray Raven is a strict stage-based hack-and-slash title that tells its story in a light novel format.
"It is Kuro's first open-world game, the first game developed using the UE4 engine, and the first game to be globally released, simultaneously."
Dong mentioned that this project is not only Kuro's first open-world title but also the first game to be exclusively made from Unreal Engine 4. This can explain the many performance issues that plagued Wuthering Waves during its launch, leading to players raising concerns regarding the various bugs and errors.
Kuro Games has been transparent about the game's issues with the community and has actively addressed the shortcomings of the game.
Many of the issues have since been patched out, thanks to the team working diligently and releasing updates.
"With Wuthering Waves, we aim to accumulate sufficient experience in game production, industrialization, and global distribution through its long-term operation, to support the company's future strategic development."
It is clear that the developers are determined to take the game to new heights, making it one of the best open-world gacha game. The team at Kuro Games is also ready to gather more experience and ensure that they can continue to deliver more fantastic titles to their fans.
