EA’s The Sims 4 is the latest entry in the iconic life simulation series. By creating a custom Sim as they desire with distinct looks, aesthetics, and personality traits, players can live the virtual life they always dreamt of. From rags-to-riches scenarios to accomplishing life goals, players are only limited by their imagination. With a treasure trove of DLC packs released over the years that add new items, features, mechanics, and so on, there is no shortage of content to keep players coming back for more.
Gameplay
As a life simulation title, players will first be prompted to create their own custom avatar via a powerful character creation tool, including tweaking personality aspects and even aspirations. This then pits the created Sim into an Earth-inspired world with various biomes where they can begin their life. This can be as mundane as renting a home, honing skins by undertaking various jobs to make income, finding the love of their life, and settling down with children.
Or players can simply choose to build a house from scratch if they do not like any of the prebuilt ones, and choose to ignore any or all of these objectives altogether. Subsequent patches and DLCs have further excavated the well of depth for The Sims 4, added aspects like multiple apartments, the ability to create and own pets and even picking a sexuality for the Sim to make the gameplay as immersive to the player as possible.
Community creations also form a strong foundation of The Sims 4 experience, with players able to engage with tons of custom content and mods that further enhance the experience in ways the base game cannot. All in all, it is hard to beat this game in terms of the most feature-rich life sim on the market right now
Release Date
The game originally launched on September 2, 2014, and has since seen a steady flow of DLCs over the years - with the latest one dropping last year. Despite its decade-old roots, this influx of new content makes The Sims 4 an evergreen experience
Platforms
The game is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms. Interestingly, developer EA has not yet released a version tailored for current-gen platforms; despite that, players can enjoy enhanced performance on PS5 and Xbox Series platforms thanks to backwards compatibility. As for Nintendo Switch, the life sim game continues to elude the popular hybrid console.
