"This is lame tbh": Marvel Rivals community not impressed with Chrono Tokens refresh in Season 1

Chrono Tokens will not carry forward to the next season of Marvel Rivals. In a recent Dev Diaries update, the developers at NetEase Games notified players of the refresh that will reset any unredeemed tokens to zero. This means players will have to start earning Chrono Tokens from scratch for the upcoming season of Marvel Rivals.

Reasonably, Reddit user u/Crimson_V- commented on the situation noting how the reset could affect player morale if the Chrono Tokens get reset to zero every single time:

"This is lame tbh. So you're telling me any Chrono Tokens I've earned after completing the BP (rn I'm sitting at 1,000+ tokens) will be taken from me and trashed when season 1 starts? That's ridiculous and feels like a slap in the face."

Another Redditor, u/The_Owl_Bard was disappointed to learn that the currency would be wiped at the start of the new season. However, they also argued that perhaps it was the game's way of making players work for new items in the upcoming battle pass:

"Not supporting this but probably their way of ensuring everyone comes back to grind vs sitting on a stockpile of tokens and just insta unlocking everything on the pass on day one of the new season. However... Feels bad to see a currency get wiped vs converted."

On the other hand, u/slimsim98 suggested that instead of completely resetting the Chrono Tokens, the developers could allow their conversion into Units or some other form of Marvel Rivals currency.

Several Redditors suggested different ways to utilize the Chrono Tokens instead of the refresh. One user, u/arksoo, claimed that perhaps the developers could look into providing an expiry timer instead:

"Would’ve been easier to just set a timer to expire them"

Finally, u/Tall_Willow_9502 had an upsetting realization that their efforts earning the Chrono Tokens may have just been a complete waste. The user mentioned that they had nearly 2000 tokens which would soon be of no use.

Although Chrono Tokens in Marvel Rivals are a form of currency, they could be compared to the battle pass XP players earn in other games. Upon comparison, the system of refresh may appear less bizarre to some players as many titles hit refresh on the battle pass points once a season ends.

However, it is evident from the reaction on Reddit that some players are taken aback by the sudden announcement. Chrono Tokens can be earned by finishing challenges and they're used to buy items from the Marvel Rivals battle pass. This function makes them an attractive choice. However, perhaps with leftover tokens, players may not be motivated to complete challenges in Season 1. This could be why the developers decided to hit the refresh button.
