Lucio is meta in the Overwatch 2 6v6 mode mainly because of his unique ability called Soundwave. The Overwatch 2 6v6 mode is a new casual mode that will be a part of the game from December 17, 2024, to January 6, 2025. It features 2-2-2 role queue structure, meaning your team is forced to pick two Tanks, two Supports, and two Damage heroes.
More importantly, however, a few balance changes have been made specifically for this mode to accommodate the chaotic gameplay and this is what boosts Lucio’s kit. The most significant change made was with the Tank passives where Knockback and Critical Damage reduction was reduced. This means Lucio’s unique ability, Soundwave, can now take full effect on Tanks, thereby taking away his only weakness.
Additionally, Soundwave can now be used to knock Tanks and other heroes off the map for some funny interactions mid-battle.
Furthermore, Lucio is extremely versatile when it comes to Support abilities on the battlefield. His Crossfade ability can provide consistent AoE healing or speed boost to his teammates, something like Luna Snow’s ultimate in Marvel Rivals which provides healing or damage boost instead.
Moreover, agility is key in a chaotic game mode like the 6v6 experiment in Overwatch 2, and this is a region where Lucio shines with his high movement speed and Wall Ride ability. Finally, Lucio’s ultimate is just a cherry on the cake as it provides temporary extra health which is game-changing in the chaotic environment of the 6v6 experiment game mode in Overwatch 2.
