According to a report by the Esports Charts website, MOBA games, like League of Legends and MLBB, grabbed massive viewership this year. Shooter titles, like Valorant and Counter-Strike, also had a successful season.

Top 10 esports events of 2024 by peak viewership


10) VCT Masters Madrid

The Masters Madrid 2024 emerged as the most popular Valorant tournament of the year. Overall, it was the 10th most popular esports event with a peak viewership of around 1.68 million. It was held from March 14 to 24 in Madrid, Spain.

Sentinels won the event and received a cash prize of $250,000, which was half of the total prize pool. The renowned club defeated Gen.G Esports in its Grand Finals.

The LCK Regional Finals 2024, a League of Legends event, ranked ninth in the list with a peak viewership of 1.82 million. It was played offline from September 12 to 14 in Seoul, South Korea. Dplus KIA was the top performer there. They defeated T1 and secured Round 1. T1 bounced back against KT in Round 3. The two South Korean clubs went on to qualify for the Worlds 2024.


8) PGL Major Copenhagen

The PGL Major Copenhagen, a prestigious Counter-Strike 2 tournament, was hosted from March 17 to 31, in Denmark. It ranked eighth among the most popular esports tourneys of 2024, with a peak viewership of 1.85 million. Natus Vincere emerged as the champion and received $500,000 in prize money. Faze Clan, Team Vitality, and G2 Esports finished second, third, and fourth, respectively.


7) MPL Indonesia Season 13

The MPL Indonesia 13, a regional MLBB event, secured seventh rank in this list with a huge peak viewership of 2.2 million. It featured a total prize pool of approximately $ 299K. Fnatic ONIC came out victorious in this tournament held from March 8 to June 9 this year. Evos Glory and Geek Fam ensured second and third positions to their respective names.


6) EWC x MSC 2024

The MSC 2024 was played from June 28 to July 14 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It was the sixth most popular event of the year with a massive peak viewership of 2.38 million. It had a massive prize pool of $3 million and Selangor Red Giants from Malaysia surpassed everyone with their performances there. Falcon AP.Bren earned second place, while Liquid ECHO registered the third place to their name.

The fifth popular tournament of the year was the LCK Spring, a League of Legends event. It garnered 2.6 million peak viewers. Organized from January 17 to April 14, it boasted a total prize pool of $272,000. Gen.G Esports lifted the trophy after defeating T1 in the Grand Finals. Both the teams had made it to the MSI 2024.


4) Mid Season Invitational 2024

The prestigious Mid Season Invitational (MSI) 2024 took place from May 1 to 19 in China. It emerged as the fourth most popular esports tournament of the year, with a peak viewership of 2.8 million. Gen.G Esports had an amazing run in this League of Legends tournament as the club secured the title in emphatic fashion. Bilibili Gaming and T1 were second and third, respectively.


3) MPL Indonesia Season 14

Fnatic ONIC from the Philippines became the world champions. Team Liquid from Indonesia was the runner-up in the competition. The total prize pool was $1 million.

T1 from South Korea came out as the undisputed champions. Bilibili Gaming from China earned the second position. Weibo and Gen.G claimed third and fourth places, respectively.
