United Front explains Triad Wars Free-to-play approach

According to reports, Developer United Front Games is planning to get their newly announced free-to-play game, Triad Wars, in front of as many players as possible. The studio answered questions and concerns, yesterday, about the business model approach of its PC-only online adventure game which is a follow up to its 2012 hit, Sleeping Dogs.

Justin Bullard, the producer of the game said, “Free to Play, allows us to get the game to as many players as possible with the lowest possible barrier to entry. That suits our goal of exposing a massive number of gamers to the Sleeping Dogs universe.”

The studio is looking for a business model that will work best with the persistent ongoing services of Triad Wars. Although no details into the free-to-play model were given, Bullard did go on to say that monetization will be tried and tuned according to what the studio learns from the game’s beta tests.

“Our guiding principle is that gamers should be having fun, first and foremost,” Bullard says. “We live and die by that at UFG. We aren’t interested in nickel and diming people, but instead want to build a game that players will keep coming back to, because they love it.”

Triad Wars brings the Hong Kong criminal elements of Sleeping Dogs’ game-play into an asynchronous multiplayer online game. Players build or join gangs and climb the ladder of power in the Triad underworld. Players can battle each other over turf to expand their criminal operations such as extortion, counterfeiting, and smuggling.

Triad Wars was officially announced last Friday by United Front Games, after confirming its development last October. Watch the trailer below to know more.
