Apex Legends Season 22 recently went live and brought many new changes, including a hefty buff for the Controller category characters. This new passive ability allows the legends Caustic, Rampart, Wattson, and Catalyst to have an extra shield cell when inside the next safe zone or circle. While it might not seem much of an advantage, it can potentially be enough to turn the tides of a gunfight.

The developers ingrained several perk changes alongside a weapons balance patch in the latest season. However, the Controller category received an additional incentive for players to play strategically and plant themselves inside the zone. The increment in available shields makes it easier to take gunfights even with lower-level armor.

This article will highlight a possible new team meta in Apex Legends Season 22.

How can three Controllers win you games in Apex Legends Season 22?

With the arrival of Season 22, the community also gained access to a brand-new map, E-District. It features a night-time environment with several buildings, streets, and varying elevations for open-ground gunfights. Moreover, it is densely packed with several Points of Interest (POIs), which makes it easier to hold a position in the final zones with Controller characters.

Most of the buildings are small but contain different floors, which can easily host separate squads. This is where having three controller legends in a single squad can provide players with an upper hand. The squad will be able to completely lock down one location and deter any aggressive teams from entering the building.

The Controller Legends are also able to remotely pick up their tactical abilities like Gas traps and Rampart walls. This makes it easier for the squad to hop from one location to another while fortifying their position in the zone in Apex Legends.

This, combined with the ability to gain an extra cell on the existing shield, can increase your chances of winning almost any gunfight. The recent change effectively changes a White shield to have HP equivalent to a Blue one and so on. But this only applies when the player is present inside the safe zone. As soon as the circle moves away, the extra shield fades away after a short duration.

It is important to note that when the shield cracks inside the safe zone, players will have to recharge it on their own. The extra shield automatically charges up for the first time when players enter the next zone as controllers. The Red shield remains the maximum shield limit for all legends so players can enjoy the overcharge only until the Purple shield.
