"Useless character, yet again": Players frustrated as Crypto falls short in the current meta of Apex Legends Season 23

Crypto was one of the highest-picked characters in Apex Legends Season 22. The character had received numerous buffs, which made him a meta-tier legend in the game. After being at the bottom of the food chain for the longest time, Crypto finally saw some uptime in the title and slowly became a popular choice among players.

Unfortunately, with the release of Apex Legends Season 23, Crypto has been shadow-nerfed, and players are frustrated as he has once again become "useless" in the meta. Hinting at the same, a user on Reddit recently commented:

"Oh yeah and crypto can’t disable any of their walls or defenses or anything. Useless character, yet again"

This comment was in response to the fact that the latest patch notes have seemingly over-tuned the entire Support class Legends in the game. The original poster of the Reddit thread, u/RaizTheOne, pointed out that Crypto, despite being a direct counter to the support class previously, can no longer combat them in the latest season of Apex Legends.

As a crypto main, the fact that these guys can negate EMP damage with a single cell is infuriating byu/RaizTheOne inapexlegends

Another user, u/ZexQuodDeus, said that the developers barely bat an eye when other Legends become overpowered in the game. However, the moment a recon Legend starts getting popular and becomes part of the meta-tier Legends for a season, they instantly get nerfed to the ground.

Judging by how powerful Support Legends have become in the current meta of the game, a user, u/BadPotat0 has stated that, Crypto should have retained his power to disable Support gadgets, such as Gibraltar's bubble, and Newcastle's Shield, alongside his Castle Wall.

As pointed out by u/Remarkable_Junket619, Crypto's EMP should always disable any deployable in the game. Since his debut, the character has been able to achieve this outcome with his ultimate ability. However, in the season where support deployable has absolutely dominated the meta, the recent nerfs to the EMP have failed to develop a healthy counter-meta in the game.

Another user, u/AmazingSpacePelican, also pointed out that while the developers want to implement fresh meta changes every season, it feels extremely unfruitful to play the game when there isn't a healthy counter-meta present to counteract the oppressive abilities of meta-tier Legends.

Are Support Legends overpowered in Apex Legends Season 23?

Support Legends truly feel overpowered in the current season of Apex Legends. With the latest changes to these characters, their abilities have been over-tuned, and with no effective counter in the game, they remain an extremely dominant force on the battlefield.

While the meta shift from Assault and Recon Legends has been quite healthy, the lack of any viable counters makes it a stale experience for gamers. We believe that the developers should look into focusing on developing viable counters for these Legends. Minor changes to Legends' kits, such as improving Crypto's EMP, and Maggie's Wrecking Ball would develop a great counter-meta in the game.
