WARRIORS: Abyss is a dark fantasy hack-and-slash action RPG that takes players to the underworld, which is in complete chaos. This game was developed and published by KOEI TECMO GAMES. It combines high-octane melee combat with atmospheric storytelling, dungeon exploration, and complex character progression. Gamers who like Soulsborne titles and Dynasty Warriors-style action would enjoy WARRIORS: Abyss.

Plot

Players take on the role of souls of long-forgotten heroes who are mysteriously summoned to the underworld. Upon awakening, the player encounters the King of Underworld, Enma, who reveals that an ancient evil known as Gouma has risen and corrupted the entire underworld. Twisting the dead and distorting reality itself, Gouma’s influence threatens not only the Abyss but existence as a whole.

At Enma’s urgent request, players must descend deeper into the abyssal layers of the underworld, battling legions of corrupted souls and monstrous entities loyal to Gouma. Along the way, they’ll uncover their forgotten past, forge bonds with other lost spirits, and ultimately face Gouma in a battle to restore balance to the underworld and prevent its horrors from spreading to the realm of the living.

Gameplay

Being a hack-and-slash action RPG, the game features a fast, fluid, and ferocious combat system. Players wield a range of weapons—blades, polearms, cursed gauntlets—and each one has a different class with its own move set and combo tree. Timing, dodging, and parrying are crucial, especially in duels against elite enemies known as Abyssborn.

RPG elements like skill trees, gear upgrades, and elemental affinities add depth, while procedurally generated Abyssal Rifts offer endless challenge and loot. The game emphasizes aggression and creativity in combat, rewarding well-timed combos and stance changes with devastating finishers.

WARRIORS: Abyss is currently available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It is also available on last-generation consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Moreover, players can also enjoy it on Nintendo Switch, as well as the upcoming Switch 2.
