After taking a look at the trailer and leaked gameplay footage of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, it is safe to assume that MachineGames and Bethesda Softworks did amazing work. But this might leave some of you wondering if the game is developed using the Unreal Engine 5? Let's find out.

While MachineGames is known for its work in the realm of FPS games including the Wolfenstein series, Indiana Jones is not a shooting game by any means. However, despite not being of the same genre as Wolfenstein, MachineGames did use the same engine for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and no, it is not Unreal Engine 5.

Which engine was used to make Indiana Jones and the Great Circle?

MachineGames has been relying on id Software's id Tech for ages. This time around as well, MachineGames used id Tech 7 to make this linear action-adventure game. This technology was first used to make Doom Eternal, which came out back in 2020. Even though id Tech was earlier highly criticized, it regained prominence after MegaTexture was removed.

MegaTexture technology was used in id Tech 4 for better texture streaming on hard drives. However, its usage led to an increase in file size. Since modern video game consoles and PCs use SSDs, this issue is now resolved.

The release of Doom Eternal showcased the actual potential of id Tech 7. The engine supports ray-tracing as well, making the games feel a lot more realistic than its previous versions. However, this engine requires higher VRAM and is CPU intensive, which is why the system requirements for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are a bit too high.

Will the game have Denuvo protection?

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle won't have any third-party DRMs like Denuvo. You can enjoy the game completely offline without any worries. However, if you've purchased the game's Premium Edition, you'll have to connect to the internet once before playing as part of early access.

Apart from Denuvo, you will witness two in-house DRMs, though: one from Xbox Game Pass and the other from Bethesda Softworks. But both pop-ups can be ignored or skipped.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be released worldwide on December 8, 2024. The game is available for purchase on Steam and Xbox Game Store.
