Attachments are mainly found in the Zone, either as loot in Stalker stashes or bought from merchants. Most of the guns you find in the open world are either weaker than your equipped weapon or in very bad condition.

It’s best to keep the weaker but functional guns in your inventory and throw those with red marks after taking their ammo. Once you are near a settlement, sell all the looted guns for Coupons and purchase some attachments.

There are two primary methods for equipping weapon attachments. The first is through your inventory. Open your inventory, click on the attachment you want to equip, drag it onto the compatible weapon, and then drop it. To remove an attachment, right-click the weapon and select the part you want to detach.
