Looks like the team behind Alan Wake is still very much taken with Wake’s journey. This has been revealed in an interview with Polygon. Remedy had made it clear that the team was working on a sequel to the game. However, the project never came to fruition despite its predecessor’s financial success. A thirteen-minute prototype video of what Alan Wake 2 would have looked like can be viewed at the provided link.
According to Remedy creative director Sam Lake, “For Alan Wake, from the get-go, we assumed there was going to be a sequel…” The team had gone forward with drawing out elaborate plans of the look, feel and the mechanics of the game that will go on to be a sequel to Alan Wake. Unsurprisingly, that video made its way back to Microsoft for a pitch, but the company wanted to diversify their portfolio with a title unlike their current offerings. This interaction and exchange led to the start of the development of an Xbox One exclusive. As Lake put it, “Quite quickly our discussion about Alan Wake 2 turned into something else and that something else turned into Quantum Break.”
As of now Quantum Break is the team’s main priority but we must not forget Alan Wake 2. The creative director did not attempt to hide his love for and desire to return to the series. “We are in a place where we are starting to look into the future and starting to have discussions about what is next,” he further stated that. “Among other things, we are discussing the possibility of an Alan Wake sequel with multiple partners, but nothing has been decided.”
So, for all the fans out there the video you saw may someday turn into a game. All we can do now is wait and let time weave its magic.
