Unlike the previous God of War game, in Ragnarok, Kratos was not able to see anything in the Light of Alfheim during the dark elves' quest. When Kratos, Atreus (Loki), and Tyr reach the Light and discuss their path ahead, we get a cutscene when Kratos is shown reaching out to the light and Atreus stops him. When asked what he was doing, Kratos responded saying that he heard his dead wife Faye's voice.
This could only mean that Faye was trying to connect to him through the Light of Alfheim to give him the message. Sadly, we were not able to see that part in the game.
What is God Of War Ragnarok?
God of War Ragnarök is a single-player, action, and adventure game. It was developed by Santa Monica Studios and was released by Sony Interactive Entertainment for their newly released PlayStation 5. Chronologically, this game is the 9th installment of the God of War franchise and is the sequel to the God Of War game released in 2018.
The game is based on Norse mythology and covers various important events such as the end of the Aesir God's rule, Ragnarok. This new game continues from the end of God of War 2018, where we witnessed the end of the Aesir god Baldur at the hands of Kratos leading to the longest winter in Norse mythology called Fimbulwinter, which means the start of Ragnarok.
Characters in God of War Ragnarok
Kratos
The original protagonist of the whole series, Kratos is the Greek God of War who came to Midgard to start a new life after he wiped out the entire Pantheon of Greek Gods. In Midgard, he married Faye and fathered Atreus as he started his new life. After their journey in the first God of War game, Kratos is now wiser in the Ragnarok game as he's seen taking many calm and practical decisions in the game. In the new game, Kratos is seen to have just one goal, to keep his son safe as he goes on the journey of self-discovery.
Atreus
Atreus is seen joining hands with his father Kartos for the second time in God of War Ragnarok. With more polished abilities from the last game, Atreus has become a huge force to play in the game. With him realizing that his name was Loki in the previous God of War game, Atreus decides to learn more about himself and discover who he is, in this game.
Mimir
The wisest man- or should we say head- alive, Mimir is also a part of the game as Kratos and Atreus' advisor through their journey. Mimir was the ambassador of the Aesir Gods until Odin imprisoned him. It was in the first game when Kratos beheaded and resurrected him with Freya's old magic. Mimir in this game has gone closer to Kratos and Atreus and is seen to have more fun conversations with them.
Angrboda
One of the new characters in the game, Angrboda is a young girl who belongs to the giant race, the same as Atreus. She is one of the last surviving giants who has a key responsibility in showing Atreus his path ahead. It is shown that Angrboda and Atreus (Loki) have some form of affection for each other.
Freya
Next on the list of new characters is the Goddess Freya. She is the leader of the Valkyries and Odin's estranged wife. She is one of the pivotal roles in the games as it was her son Baldur who was killed in the last game. Since then, the goddess has planned vengeance against Kratos.
Thor
The Mighty Thor is a part of this game and is one of the main reasons for the hype for the game's second part. Thor was only teased at the end of God of War in 2018. Even though he is following the orders of Odin, it is clearly expressed that Thor is also looking for revenge on Kratos and Atreus for killing his sons Magni and Modi. Thor in this game wields the Mjolnir and is considered Asgard's champion.
Tyr
The legendary God of War in Norse mythology Tyr finally makes his appearance in God of War Ragnarok. Even though he was rumored to have been killed by Odin, Atreus and Kratos find him and make him a part of their journey throughout the game. He also becomes a key character in the game for Atreus and Kratos.
Odin
Finally, we have the ruler of all the nine realms and king of the Aesir Gods, Odin. In the start, we see Odin be a timid and kind person who wants to find peace through the nine realms. The king of Asgard is shown to be looking for an alternative method for preventing Ragnarok and stopping his inevitable demise.
