Just after the launch of the fourth console game in 2018, the God of War game franchise earned a well-deserved refresh. Kratos currently lives in the world of Norse Mythology with his son, Atreus. With the second installment of the newest series already out, most fans already know which gods Kratos will battle and make friends with on his next adventure.
The game developers have made it clear that this will be the last in the Norse Mythology section, even if Kratos doesn't murder every Norse god in the second game. Below, you can find a list of all the Gods that feature in God of War Ragnarok.
Kratos
Kratos is the protagonist of the God of War series and is known as Fárbauti by the Jötnar. He is Zeus' demigod son, and he subsequently becomes a complete God himself as the titular God of War, with extraordinary supernatural god-like powers and combat prowess. While he loses his role as God of War, Kratos remains a whole god in the process before going to another realm.
Atreus
Atreus is the deuteragonist of God of War and the son of Kratos and Laufey (2018). He is regarded as Loki, Champion of the Jötnar, and God of Mischief among the Jötnar. Born in Scandinavia, his father taught him everything he needed to know to survive in a harsh environment, including how to shoot a bow and arrow.
Vanir Gods and Goddesses
Freya
Freya, commonly known as Frigg and the Witch of the Woods, is a minor character in God of War (2018). She is a Vanir goddess who assists Kratos and Atreus in their quest. She is the daughter of Njörd, Odin's ex-wife, Baldur's estranged mother, Freyr's sister, Forseti's grandmother, as well as the previous Queen of the Valkyries before Sigrun. She reappears in God of War: Ragnarök, intending to get revenge on Kratos for the death of Baldur but eventually joins hands with him to get after Odin.
Freyr
Freyr is a Vanir God who is the son of Njordr, Freya's brother, and Baldur's uncle. He is the God of Rain and Fertility, and the gods gave him the kingdom of Alfheim as a gift, though he subsequently abandons the realm after learning of Odin and Freya's marriage.
Aesir Gods and Goddesses
Odin
Odin, commonly known as the All-Father, is the Aesir's King and Borr's eldest son. He is also the grandfather of Magni, Modi, Forseti, and Thrud, as well as the father of Thor, Meili, Bragi, Tr, Heimdall, Hodr, Baldur, Hermodr, Vidar, and Vali, and the ex-husband of Fjörgyn, Gunnlod, Hrór, Blóughadda, Frigg, Grr, and Rind.
He is the perpetrator of the events in God of War (2018), ultimately putting the events of the series in motion by sending Baldur to Kratos' Cabin to discover the Last Guardian. Following his son's death at the hands of Kratos, Odin rises to prominence and becomes the primary villain of God of War Ragnarök.
Tyr
Týr was the son of Odin and Hróðr and the half-brother of Thor, Meili, Bragi, Heimdall, Hodr, Baldur, Hermodr, Vidar, and Vali. Tyr, although being the God of War, battled for peace. He was an avid globe traveler, eager to learn about various cultures and obtain new perspectives, feeling that it was the only way to achieve true peace. While considered to be dead for the longest time, he was found to be alive and imprisoned by Odin in God of War Ragnarok.
Heimdall
Heimdall is the Norse God of Foresight, Surveillance, Order and Foreknowledge. He is Odin's son, the half-brother of Thor, Meili, Bragi, Tr, Hodr, Baldur, Hermodr, Vali, and Vidar, as well as the uncle of Magni, Modi, Forseti, and Thrud. Heimdall is famous for being the bearer of the fabled Gjallarhorn and for his job as the Watchman of the Aesir. His cunning is only equaled by his absolute loyalty and determination to prove himself to the Allfather, who he wants to defend at all costs. This instantly elevates him to the status of key villain in God of War: Ragnarök.
Thor
Thor is the Aesir God of Thunder, Lightning, Storms, and Strength in Norse mythology and one of the main antagonists in God of War Ragnarok. He is the son of Odin and Fjörgyn. While in Norse Mythology, he is considered to be the defender of mankind and is also linked with hallowing and fertility, all of that alters in the God of War reality.
For his barbarity, violent temper, ferocity, and sadism, the Aesir god is said to be loathed and recognized across the Nine Realms. According to Mimir, Thor relished torturing and killing any giant he could find. His notoriety rivaled that of Ares, the most despised of the Olympian Gods.
Thrud
Thrud, the daughter of Thor and Sif, grew up in Asgard with her half-brothers, Magni and Modi. Both are deities, albeit Thrud was born mortal and inherited Thor's powers only when her father died. She also obtained Mjölnir, her father's weapon, and one of the most formidable weapons in God of War: Ragnarok. She, like her father, can manipulate thunder, revealing her entire power. Thrud is special in that she desires to become a Valkyrie and follow in her father's footsteps.
Sif
Sif is a Norse Goddess associated with wheat, the earth, harvest, and family. She is Thor's wife, Magni and Modi's stepmother, and the mother of Ullr and Thrud. She loathes Odin for his arrogance and selfishness, as he was the one who sent Magni and Modi to their deaths.
