Already considered one of the best video games of 2024, Stalker 2 is around the corner and will be released worldwide in just a few hours. The game features incredible graphics and solid FPS mechanics. Moreover, fans can expect to see a ton of playable content and a larger map than its predecessor. But exactly how large is Stalker 2's map?
GSC Game World, developer and publisher of Stalker 2, already answered this question briefly in an FAQ posted on the game's official website. The game's map size will be big enough that it will take players more than 100 hours to explore completely according to the developers.
"We have a seamless open world with more than 60 square kilometers of space, which is one of the biggest open worlds in video games to date. You’ll need more than 100 hours of gameplay to explore its secrets."
The Stalker trilogy, which comprised three titles—Call of Prypiat, Clear Sky, and Shadow of Chornobyl combined—had a map size of just 7.5 square kilometers. The upcoming title, however, will feature a map roughly eight times bigger. Stalker 2 will continue the story we saw in the previous game. But that doesn't mean you need to play the trilogy bundle first.

Newcomers can play Stalker 2 too
Even though Stalker 2 will continue on the same lines as the previous title, the developers have stated during their FAQ that even newcomers to the series can enjoy Stalker 2 without the fear of missing out on any important element of the story. However, it might be a better idea to play or at least read a summary of the plot first for an even better experience.
"S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl — is an independent sequel to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. trilogy, so it can be a great start of your journey within the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe. Though to maximize the immersion, we’d highly recommend completing the previous games of the series first," GSC Game World wrote.
Stalker 2 is an Xbox-exclusive game, which means it will only be available on Xbox Series X/S and PC on launch day. The game will be released on November 20, 2024, and is already available for pre-order. Check out this guide to learn more about the different editions of the game.
