How the Save the Best for Last perk works in Dead by Daylight

This Killer perk utilizes the Obsession mechanic introduced with patch 1.2.1. When using Save the Best for Last, the game picks one of the Survivors and tags them as Obsession for the Killer. The Killer then needs to attack every other player before taking out the marked Survivor.

When using the Save the Best for Last perk, the gameplay strategy for Killers changes to focus on the remaining three Survivors. Each time the Killer hits an unmarked Survivor, they receive one token that can stack up to a maximum of eight times. Each of these tokens adds a 4% cooldown reduction that can be stacked for a maximum of 32% reduction.

The cooldown means the Killer can attack, hook, and kill the Survivors faster and finally go and kill their Obsession.

The ability is straightforward to use and a great alternative to slowdown perks. However, using it in gameplay can get complicated, especially if your marked Obsession learns how to use the ability to your disadvantage.

Killers can lose two tokens every time they hit the Obsession-marked survivor with their basic attacks. This means Survivors can strategize and use the player with Obsession as a shield to protect other survivors.

Another limitation is that the perk only works with basic attacks. This means attacking Survivors with special attacks won't change the number of tokens. The Killer can only have one Obsession at a time, which means if the marked player is sacrificed then there is no way to gain new tokens to reduce the cooldown of your attacks.

The perk is most suited for Killers with slow movement and attack speed. It can help them score a couple more hits on agile Survivors. Characters like Spirit, Wraith, and Doctor can use this ability well.

It is also the signature ability of Michael Meyers and complements his Evil Within ability, granting him enhanced vision during the game. You can also use this ability on Killers with alternate methods of downing Survivors like Trapper, Demogorgon, Hag, and Pig.

Save the Best for Last is a great perk for most Killers and works exceptionally well on slower characters. Check out more related articles here:
